An all-year
round
resort,
Nendaz,
situated at
around
5,000ft, and
the
surrounding
region
caters for
everyone.
The town has
a sizeable
permanent
residential
population
of more than
5,000 and is
much more
than a ski
resort.
While skiing
is our own
passion, and
the Verbier
/ Mont Fort
/ Veysonnaz
areas are
huge and
fantastic,
we've come
to prefer
being at the
chalet even
more in the
summer.
The
temperature
in summer
reaches the
mid 30's
(and higher)
and its
generally
sunny most
of the time.
Swiss Day,
1st of
August, is a
national
holiday, and
this year
the
celebrations
took place
at Tracouet
at the top
of the
gondola with
the Mont
Blanc
massive in
the
supporting
role of
backdrop.
Beer and
wine and
delicacies
were in
abundance
and the hand
gliding
display,
where
gliders
attempted to
land on a
small raft
in the
centre of
the lake,
was followed
by
spectacular
fireworks
and bonfire.
The evening
was rounded
off with
hundreds of
people
walking down
from
Tracouet to
the town via
mountain
paths whilst
carrying lit
fire batons.
The tourist
information
had laid on
a couple of
pitstops on
the way
where 'vin
chaud', red
and white
wine, beer,
coke and
water was
served 'free
gratis'. A
great
evening.
The scenery
everywhere
is superb
and this is
not an
exaggeration.
The views
from the
terrace of
Chalet
Campanella
to the
mountains
above Crans
Montana and
down to the
castle and
battlements
of Sion and
River Rhone,
are
breathtaking
and
memorable.
Travelling
to Nendaz
couldn't be
easier.
A lower
level train
service from
inside of
Geneva
Airport goes
direct to
Sion Station
in 2 hours.
This tends
to be the
Milan train
and there's
normally two
every hour.
A connecting
public bus
service,
from right
outside the
train
station,
transports
you to
Nendaz town
centre in
around 25
minutes.
Hiring a car
at Geneva
Airport
(Swiss side)
and driving
around the
lake past
Lausanne,
Vevey,
Montreaux,
etc .. to
the front
door of
Chalet
Campanella
will take
around 1
hour 50 mins.
Please note
if you hire
a car on the
French side
you will
probably
require to
purchase a 'vignol'
at the Swiss
border,
price 40 chf.
You stick it
on your
windscreen
and it
allows you
to drive on
the
motorways in
Switzerland.
There are no
tolls.
Watch the
speed
limits.
There are
many speed
cameras on
the motorway
and you
don't want
to be
returning
home to a
fine. We
received a
fine of
160chf
earlier this
year and we
were only
6kmph over
the limit.
Bars,
Restaurants
and Shops
There are
many great
friendly
bars and
restaurants
to choose
from and
visit during
your stay in
Nendaz, and
if you
prefer to
stay at
home, the
town has
three large
supermarkets
and several
smaller ones
with all you
need.
It is
advisable to
book the
restaurants
in advance
to ensure
you will
have a
table.
Please refer
to the links
page of this
site for
details of
some of the
restaurants
in and
around town.
We are happy
to pass on
some
recommendations
and why on
request
The main
supermarkets
include a
MIGROS and
Co-op, which
are both
close to the
sports
centre, and
a PAM which
is on the
main road to
the Gondola
Station
The town
benefits
from high
quality
clothes
shops
including
North Face
and
Benettons.
There are
butchers,
bakers and
stationers.
There are
also of
course the
ski, ski
school and
bike hire
and sports
shops that
cater for
your every
need.
Mountain
guides can
be arranged
if that's
your
passion.
DO NOT
BUY BOTTLED
WATER - WHY?
The water
that comes
out the tap
in the
chalet
is itself
bottled
further down
the valley
in Aproz.
It's
beautiful
water and so
there's no
need to buy
the bottled
stuff.
Childcare
If childcare
is a
requirement
for you,
there are
options
available.
There's also
a baby
sitting
service
