How to get to Nendaz?

Getting to Nendaz is easy from just about anywhere in Europe. It can be reached either from the west via Geneva/Lausanne and Grand St Bernard, the north via the Lötschbergtunnel or the east via the Simplon pass/tunnel. The final road up to Nendaz is a major route, has few nasty hairpins (last count only 12 in total) and is on the whole of gentle gradient and kept clear of snow.

By plane:

Geneva
airport is the closest major airport (BA, Swiss, EasyJet etc.) and about 2hrs away from Nendaz. Sion Airport which is only 15mins drive from the Chalet has a Winter Schedule from London (Saturdays only) with Swiss from City Airport. In theory this means London house /Chalet door to door in 4.5 hours.

Then either hire a car at airport (many options, we have found Avis to be the cheapest) or take train to Sion straight from Geneva Airport, 2 fast trains per hour which connect with the yellow Postal Bus (space # 6 in front of station) straight to Nendaz, there are 20 Postal Buses per day to Nendaz from Sion

Taxi: You can get a taxi from Sion train station or Airport or from Nendaz centre up to the Chalet, just be sure to call a few hours in advance or at least when getting on the Postal Bus if during the peak season.

For Sion Taxis call +41 (0) 27 322 32 32 or Mattei Taxis +41 (0)27 203 52 52

For Nendaz call Taxi Praz +41 (0)79 409 32 15

By Train:

Sion is on the main line between Milan and Geneva/Lausanne and most trains stop there. Each hour there are several express and local trains in both directions. The Sion – Nendaz Postal Bus (space # 6 in front of train station) connects with all major train services and takes 35 minutes to the Nendaz Telecabine station. See http://www.sbb.ch/en/index.htm for timetable and connections.

Note that motorways in Switzerland have an obligatory road tax called the 'Vignette' which in 2006 cost 40CHF for a year. This can bought at all border crossings.

Finding Chalet Campanella

The first time you arrive in Nendaz you will go straight to our local agents at Mira Chalet Services for the Chalet keys and to finalise details and deposits. If you wish they will then escort you to the Chalet.

From the Tourist Information office, located next to the roundabout, travel up the hill till you reach the junction on a u-bend. Bar Chin Chin is on the left.

Continue straight over the junction on the road to Siviez and travel downhill till you reach a T-junction (this T-junction is where you pick up the free ski bus from Chalet Campanella)

Turn left at the T-junction and travel downhill for approximately 150 metres till you come to a side road on your right, on the opposite side of the road from post boxes and large communal waste bin.

Turn right into the side road and Chalet Campanella is two down from the turnoff on the right hand side (corner site)

Driving from UK and Northern France

If respecting the limits it takes about 9-10 hours drive from Calais (520 miles). The quickest and easiest route we have found is:

-       Calais – Reims - Troyes – Dijon – Besancon on the motorway

-       At Besancon leave motorway at junction 3, direction Pontarlier then over the pass (Col du Jougne) and Swiss border to Vallorbe

-       Join motorway N1 before Vallorbe then direction Lausanne, Grand St  Bernard/Martigny/Brig/Sion N9

-       Just before Sion take exit marked Sion-Ouest

-       Then follow signs to Nendaz, takes approx. 20 minutes

Shuttle, boat or hydrofoil?

The shuttle in winter, especially if you have young kids, is more dependable, quicker and much less hassle as there is no need to empty car and lug kids up stairs on to a deck. Although worth noting that recently their performance has not been great and be sure to arrive early if you want to get your scheduled departure. The boat is always fun, especially in summer, and it gives you a good break from the drive. French speeding cameras - watch out for them - you have been warned.
